Called To Be Free
(Gal 5:1, Gal 5:13-15)
God is the Father of truth.
He gives birth to His children through the word of truth(Jas 1:18) and
He sets them free by truth.
Faith is responding to His calling and receiving freedom.
The life of this faith is willingly becoming slaves until one arrives at the kingdom of eternal freedom.
While everyone wants freedom,
True freedom comes from keeping the law and order and
It is only possible when one finds freedom in keeping it.
Truth is the law that gives freedom(Jas 1:25) and
It is desperately sought by
The bound, the imprisoned and the oppressed – i.e., sinners, captives and slaves.
The history of the Bible is
Laying the tracks for the train named Truth to come.
Because Adam ate the forbidden fruit and sinned,
All men became slaves of the devil, the ruler of death(2Pe 2:19).
After 430 years of slavery,
The Israelites followed Moses seeking freedom and left Egypt(Ex 6:6-7).
Once the Law came, however,
They were caught in its net and struggled since no flesh is without sin.
Thus, they waited for the price of sin, death(Rm 3:19-20).
The stone tablets inside the Ark of the sanctuary
Reminded them that as long as they kept the Law,
Their freedom was guaranteed.
Jesus said, “Destroy this temple and I will raise it again in three days”(Jn 2:19-21), because
Through the death and the resurrection of the temple of His body,
He would fulfill the Law, its demand – death – and
Set souls free.
The Son of God born of a woman, born under law(Gal 4:4-5) for
Only as man and only with sin He could die.
Jesus is the Truth that came on the tracks of the Prophets and the Law(Mt 11:12-13).
As such, He recovered sigh for the blind, released the oppressed,
Raised the dead and freed the prisoners(Lk 4:18).
Yet, He was arrested and crucified, and
As He died, Jesus said, “It is finished”(Jn 19:30), declaring that He:
1. Willing obeyed the Father’s command and died(Jn 10:18; Php 2:8);
2. Condemned the devil, the ruler of death(He 2:14); and
3. With His blood redeemed and released those dead in Adam and under the Law(Gal 4:5).
Hence, the cross is where
Sin, the price of sin(death) and the written code were all nailed(Col 2:13; Rm 7:1-6).
Now, whosoever knows the truth can
Break the chains of that bondage(Jn 8:32).
Jesus rose and ascended to heaven where He is the eternal freedom and
The Holy Spirit has gathers
Those called to be free as the church(Eph 4:4; 2Co 3:17).
The man of the Spirit does not use
His freedom to indulge the sinful nature;
Rather, he willingly serves others in love(Gal 5:1, Gal 5:13).
The summary of the Law is to love God and to love their neighbors.
Yet those under the Law kept it by force, out of fear for punishment(Ex 21:2-6).
Those under the truth, however:
1. Willingly love the Lord;
2. Voluntarily love the church; and
3. Freely serve one another
For they long for the day when
They would be taken up to the kingdom of the freedom of the Son He loves.
O Lord,
Though we decided to
Willingly love the Lord, the church and one another,
We are still struggling to do so.
Let this slave tendency disappear and
Let us freely love and serve as free slaves! Amen.
