Those Who Remain in the Covenant
(He8:5-13)

God is the God of covenant (Ps111:9).
He remembers His covenant for a thousand generations (Ps105:8) and
What He speaks He certainly fulfills (Nu23:19).

Compared to religions, faith is believing the covenant of God and
The life of this faith is remaining in His covenant even if it means death.

A covenant is a contract, an official promise between different parties and
It is a bilateral and conditional relationship.
Since families, societies and nations are all based on covenant
When a party breaks the conditions of the covenant, that relationship then breaks.

Adam, the ancestor of all mankind, broke God’s covenant
When he was deceived and took the forbidden fruit and sinned (Ge2:17. 3:4-6).
As a result, all men became cut off from the covenant.

Noah, on the other hand, when warned of the judgment by deluge (Ge6:13-21)
Built an ark according to the covenant and
Remained in it for more than one year, saving his family (He11:7).
The rainbow was given as a sign to remind that never again will there be flood to destroy (Ge9:15).

To Abraham God promised the land of Canaan, the fruitfulness of his offspring,
To become the father of many nations and God to be their God (Ge15:8. 17:5-7).
This covenant was given as that of circumcision (Ge17:10-11; Ac7:8).

Accordingly, Abraham had a son at the age of 100 (Ge21:1-2) and
His descendants were delivered from Egypt after 430 years (Ge15:13; Ex2:24, 12:41),
Through the signs of the Passover lamb and other plagues (Ex7:3, 12:13).

The first covenant was made between God and the people of Israel
With the blood of animals (Ex24:6-8);
Its content was the Ten Commandments and the Law (Ex34:26; Dt31:26).

The Temple of Jerusalem was built for the name of Jehovah,
A place for the ark of the covenant (1Ki8:20-21) with the stone tablets of the covenant inside (Dt9:9).

In spite of this, the Israelites left the covenant so
The prophet spoke of the coming new covenant (Jer31:31-33).

Yeshua said, “Destroy this temple and I will raise it again in three days,” because
Through the death and the resurrection of the temple of His body (Jn2:19-21),
He would establish a new covenant with
Not the blood of animals but His own blood (Mt26:28; He9:12),
Not in the name Jehovah but in the Father’s name Yeshua (Jn5:34)
Write the covenant not on the flesh but on their hearts (He8:10; 2Co3:3)

As He died, He said, “It is finished” (Jn19:30), declaring that He:
1) Obeyed the Father’s command and believed in His covenant (Jn10:17-18; He1:2);
2) Condemned the devil who caused doubt in the word of God (Ge3:4-6); and
3) With His blood fulfilled the first covenant and became a Mediator for the new covenant (He9:15, 10:9-10).

His resurrection is the sign of the Father’s covenant fulfilled (Ac2:32-33; He13:20).
He sat on the heavenly throne and He is the Lamb who died for the covenant (Rev5:9),
The ark of God’s covenant in the heavenly temple (Rev11:19).

According to His promise, the Holy Spirit came in the name Yeshua (Ac2:33)
To those forgiven by the blood of the covenant (Mt26:28) and
Reminds them of the covenant of Yeshua (Jn14:26):
God being their God, their Father, the Father’s house and
The inheritance of the thrones (Jn14:2, 20:28; Lk22:30).

The Christian is he who
Possesses the sign of the fulfilled covenant (Ac2:1-4).
Therefore, he obeys the commandments of Christ (1Co9:21) and
Remains in His covenant (Jn15:4-7),
Like a branch in the vine, a member in the body, and a building for the temple (Eph2:21, 5:30)
For he cannot live apart from it even for a moment, and
He longs to receive whatever he seeks (Jn15:7) and
To finally be taken up to the Father’s house when he leaves the world.

O Lord,
What is man that You want to make a covenant with him? A relationship with him?
Even if all our relationships in the world fail
Let us never budge from Your covenant.
Let us cling on to this rope of Your covenant! Amen.
